Giambori - presents La Modestine: Feb 6 & 7

Tuesday February 6 & Wednesday February 7, 2018, 7:30 pm at the Community Centre.

The King’s Radio: Music from the court of Louis XIV. La Modestine steps into the Sun King’s private chambers to perform sumptuous French baroque music in celebration of the 350th birthday of François Couperin, the greatest of French baroque composers. The program will include music by Couperin, Marin Marais and Jean-Marie Leclair.

La Modestine is a chamber music ensemble formed by four fine west coast musicians with a love of playing music of the 17th and 18th centuries together. The members bring a wealth of international experience to playing this enchanting repertoire on period instruments.

La Modestine is led by violinist Marc Destrubé who is an old friend I met at masterclasses in England in the seventies, and with whom I played duo concerts after that in the early days of our careers. Marc has spent most of his career divided between the west coast here in Canada and in Amsterdam. We have been reunited since we moved to this area and have collaborated again once, so far. I took the opportunity when we were together to suggest that he bring his group to Mayne island ….and so here they are.
