Joy in the Morning Series: starts Jan 10

Joy in the Morning. A 9 week series on Wednesdays, January 10 to March 7, 9 – 10 am, in the Library.

Based on ‘The Book of Joy’ by the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu. Each session will be comprised of study, silent meditation, and group reflection.

The group will be limited to 10 participants. To register or for more information please contact Vicki Turay: vturay@hotmail.com or phone (250) 539-9946. No previous experience is necessary. Cost: Priceless.

January and February can often be the most challenging months in the year.

The holidays are over. It is dark and cold. Here you are on Mayne when everyone else has escaped to Mexico. This seems a perfect time to focus on the theme of Joy.

Joy is a universal energy that transcends personal and often fleeting happiness. So even if you feel miserable, joy can still be available.

"I am offering a 9 week series on Wednesday mornings from January 10th to March 7th, 9 – 10 am in the Library. Using ‘The Book of Joy’ by the Dalai Lama and Desmund Tutu as a guide, we will explore the 8 pillars of Joy that they have identified. The book will be available for sale at the first session, or it can be borrowed from the Mayne Island Library. Each session will be comprised of an introduction, a period of silent meditation, and then a group reflection. If you have never meditated, this may be a good opportunity to try it. The group will be limited to 10 participants in order to provide intimacy. I will be your guide on this fearless journey. My qualifications are: a willingness lead and a 30 year mediation practice. So, if you are interested in putting a little more joy in your life, and you are willing to commit to an hour a week for 9 weeks, then please register" — Vicki Turay.

2017 Christmas Parade: Fri Dec 15

2017 Christmas Parade of Lights — It's on! Friday, December 15, 6 - 7 pm.

We are looking for lit up tractors, motorcycles, riding lawnmowers, cars, trucks, wheelbarrows & bird cages.

Kids - decorate your bikes & wagons, even your parents!

Think of this as the pre-Fall Fair Parade. Community groups, exercise groups, restaurants, stores, probation officers, all are welcome & encouraged to put an entry in.

The parade route will be identical to the Fall Fair parade, but ending in front of the mall. Marshalling will start at 5:30 pm.

Look for the lit up John Deere tractor that will be at the front of the line up. This is a format change, there will be no Santa at the end of the parade. So bring candy canes to throw out to the folks braving the weather along the parade route.

Let's make this the biggest ever. For further information please contact Jeff Hansen (778) 385-1917.
