AMIB Boating and Kayakers Courses - Updated

Updated information

This year’s courses are:
1. Reading Marine Charts - February 15 and 22.
Charts describe not only where the water is but also the characteristics of the waterway and seabed. They show the shape of the coast, location of islands and hazards, navigation markers, warnings of hazards, the height of bridges and other obstructions, and offer much more additional information.

2. Tides and Currents - March 15 and 22.
A sound understanding of tides and currents is the most important aspect of boating in the Gulf Islands. This course gives boaters the confidence to enjoy a safe and efficient passage wherever they are cruising or kayaking.

3. Weather - April 12 and 19.
This course gives a description of weather on BC’s coast, a familiarization with weather systems and terminology, an understanding of Marine weather forecasts, describes where to obtain good weather information at home and on the water.

4. Boater’s Radio Course – April 8 (7 - 9 pm) and April 9 (10 am – 4 pm)
This course will prepare you for the Restricted Operator Certificate (Maritime) with DSC Endorsement exam. The certificate is good for your lifetime. To operate a maritime radio, you need the certificate. It's the law! Cost $100.

Please indicate, by email or phone call, your interest in the following courses, which will again be taught by Blair Smith.
