MI Little Theatre Presents the Dixie Swim Club: Nov 17-19

The Dixie Swim Club. Mayne Island Little Theatre is opening their 35th Season this fall with a positively brilliant production of “The Dixie Swim Club.” The all-female cast delivers comedy, pathos, and warmth with equal ability. It’s bound to be a delightful evening.

The plot revolves around five southern women who all belonged to the same collegiate swim team and follows a few decades of their lives, as told through their annual get-togethers for a weekend in August. On the surface, this sounds like a ho-hum plot that has seen many renditions; to some extent, that is true. But isn’t that what life is? It isn’t all high drama, and the cast brings their characters to life in an appealing and charming production.

The cast includes many of the faces you will remember from last season’s opener, “Calendar Girls.” Jessica Easton, is brilliant in her role embracing the southern belle with a cynical twist while the rest of the cast – Glenda Goodman, Michele Steele, Karen Noyes and Eden Buday are equally matched in their delivery of characters you will not forget.

Written by Jamie Wooten, Jessie Jones, and Nicholas Hope the team who brought us Golden Girls, over 30 Community and 3 Professional Theatre groups are running or planning to run this production in the coming year. I think that says something about the quality of this work. Directed by Brian Crumblehulme and Produced by Mary Crumblehulme, The Dixie Swim Club is sure to bring a smile to your face.

You are going to want to purchase your tickets soon, this fall`s production is a three-night run opening on November 17th and closing on the 19th by all accounts from the buzz I am hearing around the island it looks like the show will sell out quickly. Remember there are only 100 tickets printed per show.

Tickets are $15 and will have “dropped” at the Trading Post, Farm Gate & Home Hardware by the time you read this. Please do not delay. You will truly be sorry if you miss this production.

Mayne Island Little Theatre like all other volunteer groups on our Island paradise is always looking for new volunteers.
