Ferry Facts: November 2016

BC Ferries has announced a 50% off standard vehicle fares promotion from November 14 to December 18 on selected sailings. For example, on Route 9 from Tsawwassen to Mayne Island, the promotion is for the morning sailings Sunday to Thursday and the Saturday 8:45 pm sailing. This is similar to last Fall’s promotion and is intended to encourage travellers to use off-peak sailings. For those who use the experience cards, a reminder that the 50% reduction is off the regular fare and not the e-card fare. If the regular fare is $41.90, the promotional fare is $20.95. For details, go to bcferries.com, click on promotions and click on the selected routes.

The new Fall/Winter schedules have a different look. In order to differentiate from the Summer schedules, BC Ferries has printed the schedules in blue. For several years, the Ferry Advisory Committee has been requesting different colours be used to identify the current schedule, so we are pleased that this suggestion was implemented.

As of this writing, the Queen of Cumberland’s elevator is out of service pending the repair of a main cylinder. To accommodate passengers who have difficulty with stairs, a portable toilet has been placed on the car deck. The elevator is expected to be operating again on November 2nd.

The local Ferry Committee advises BC Ferries on fares and schedules. Mayne Island representatives are: David Maude (davemaude@hotmail.com), Diana King (diana@dianaking.ca) and Mike Sywulych (250) 539-5274 (mikesywulych@gmail.com). Ferry Facts is submitted by Mike Sywulych.
