Community Oil Spill Response Forum: Sat Nov 5

The Southern Gulf Islands are not well prepared to respond to a serious marine oil spill. The Mayne Island Conservancy Society will host a forum to discuss the current state and how it may be improved.

The public is welcome. Come and hear a presentation from Western Canada Marine Response Corporation, the federally-designated marine spill responder, and discuss options with local authorities.

Please note that this is a working session to deal with the current risk from all shipping and small-boat traffic in this region. It is not an occasion for advocating against new pipeline, LNG and coal-shipping proposals, legitimate as those concerns are. MICS has advocated strong positions regarding many of these matters, but will take a neutral, solutions-oriented approach on November 5.

Saturday, November 5, 1 pm to 4:30 pm, Agricultural Hall
