Active Pass Nature and Arts Festival 2016: The Mayne Island Sampler

Friday April 22, 2016 in honour of Earth Day the National Film Board’s docudrama Hadwin’s Judgment. Based on the book The Golden Spruce by John Vaillant. Mayne Island Agricultural Hall, 7:30 pm. Sponsored by the Mayne Island Library Society. Donations at the door.

Sunday April 24, 2016 “The Mayne Island Sampler”. Miners Bay Community Park. 11 am to 5 pm.

Centred in the commercial/retail/historical/cultural heart of Mayne Island at Miners Bay you will be treated to multiple opportunities to explore the island. Using Miners Bay Community Park as the centre you will find food, displays and live music throughout the day. Look for us under the tents.

“Active Pass Inspirations” Featuring the Works of 24 Mayne Island Artists and Musicians. Sponsored by the Southern Gulf Islands Arts Council. At the Mayne Island Library. The Library will be fully open as well on this day. Open All Day. Donations at the door.

“From the Gaol to the Churchyard” Exploring the History of Miners Bay. Join Helen O’Brian as she takes you through time exploring the historical hub of the Southern Gulf Islands. Walk leaves Miners Bay Park at 1:00 pm. By Donation.

“Explore Mt. Parke Regional Park” This is a guided birding and natural history walk with Michael Dunn to explore Mt. Parke Regional Park. Participants will get to explore the forests and ridges of this park and be treated to outstanding views of the surrounding islands. A moderate level of fitness is required. Photographers welcome. Walk leaves Miners Bay Park at 1:30 pm. By Donation.

“The Japanese Community on Mayne Island” Join author Sarah Jefferies on an engaging exploration of the gardens that commemorate the Japanese Canadian families who lived on pre-war Mayne Island. Bus connection leaves Miners Bay Park at 2:45 pm. By Donation.

Festival Active Pass Banquet Package – Mayne Island. This year’s Festival Banquet looks to be an amazing event and the Mayne Island Conservancy has arranged with the Mayne Island Community Bus to provide transportation for interested Mayne lslanders to and from the banquet venue. This will be using the BC Ferries schedule between Mayne and Galiano leaving Mayne Saturday April 23, 2016 at 5:05 pm and returning from Galiano on the 9:50 pm ferry. All you need is a donation to the bus and a banquet ticket. Banquet tickets are available at the Mayne Island Conservancy Office in the Root Seller building and at the Farm Gate Store. Ticket price is $50.00.

Festival goers can access Mayne Island from Galiano using BC Ferries service from Sturdies Bay to Village Bay and back. On-island transportation will be provided by the Mayne Island Community Bus. By donation.
