Mayne Island's 90th Fall Fair: Sat Aug 15

Join us on Saturday August 15th as Mayne Islanders come out to celebrate our annual Fall Fair - our 90th in fact.

The activity begins tomorrow as registration opens for all of the exhibit entries. Registration take place Monday and Tuesday, in the Ag Hall from 1 to 5:30 pm. No entries will be accepted after this time. Entries are still only 10 cents a piece and free for children. Thursday is the day to bring in your entries; the times are listed at the beginning of each division in the booklet and on our website, Fall Fair Booklet.

The deadline for parade entries is 5:30 pm Thursday. Entry forms can be taken to the hall or dropped off at Gulfport Realty or the red mailbox at 415 Minty. The parade lines up along Fernhill Rd by Campbell Bay Rd. Judging is at 10:30 and the parade starts at 11:30 making its way to Miners Bay Park. Fernhill Road will close at 9 am. The road from Dixon to past the Thrift Store and Minty (the site of the Farmers Market) will be closed for the duration of the fair.

The gates ($2.00 for adults) and the Farmers Market open at 10 am. The fair will be officially be opened by "Queen Victoria" at 12:00. Brian Haller our MC will be making announcements throughout the afternoon handing out door prizes, awarding the bicycle prize, the trophies and raffle prizes after 3:15.

Starting at noon on the main grounds - The Event Circle - you will find the Pender Pipe and Drum Band, the nail driving competition, children's races, log sawing and the tug of war. Mr. Bubbles the clown is back by popular demand along with face painting and weaving and knitting demonstrations. Ice cream and popcorn will also be available.

The tea room, in the back corner off the side patio, opens at noon. We hope our plus ninety year old guests will relax here and join "Queen Victoria" for a cup of tea.

Across the road the Thrift Shop ladies will have a sale of Thrift Shop treasures. Animals, mason bees and historical displays will be behind the Thrift Store. The water pumps, wheat grinding and the old wringer washing machine will be in service for the day. Kids can have some fun either planting or digging up potatoes.

On the main grounds the Lions will be selling their hot dogs and hamburgers and the Silver Maynes will have pop and water for sale. There will be ice cream and popcorn available and vendors at the Farmers Market will have an assortment of foods for sale - check these out early as they tend to sell out fast.

We have made a few improvements to the facilities this year. In addition to the washrooms in the hall (accessed from the side door off the patio) and the washrooms at the library, we will have the port-a-potties located in the back corner of the Tru Value parking lot. The Recycling Society will be there to help you sort out any materials that can be recycled. We hope everyone will join in and help keep the area clean.

Many of the islands community service groups will be on hand to tell you of the services they provide and hopefully entice you to join their group and cause.

A detailed list of all the events is available on our website ( or Facebook (Mayne Island Agricultural Society Fall Fair) or you can pick up a printed copy at the gate.

We hope you will enjoy all these activities and thank you for coming to and supporting our Fall Fair.
