Series of Public Meetings for Gulf Islands/Trans-Canada Trail Proposal

On Wednesday, October 24th, 7:00 pm at the Ag Hall, there will be a public meeting to discuss the concept of an “Experience the Gulf Islands” project and inclusion to the Trans Canada Trail system. A series of meetings will be held leading up to the October 24th meeting.

This is an initiative that proposes to link the Southern Gulf Islands; Mayne, Galiano, Saturna and the Penders with a series of hiking/biking trails and marine facilities that look beyond a dependency on ferry and vehicle traffic.

A group of community members have been meeting to develop a conceptual plan for the Mayne Island component and are inviting others in the community to participate in developing this proposal for presentation to the Mayne Island community on the 24th. The Experience the Gulf Island concept has been fully endorsed by the CRD and will be a major component of the Economic Development Commission that has been recently created.

This is a genuine opportunity to develop new green infrastructure and improve on existing marine and trail facilities. Public input is welcome at our next meeting at 7:30 Wednesday, September 12 at the church house. Additional meetings will be held every second Wednesday leading up to the public meeting on October 24th. (Sept 12th, Sept 26th & Oct 10th).

Please notify Brian Crumblehume at briarycottage@gmail.com or Brian Dearden at bdearden@shaw.ca if you will be attending the Wednesday meeting. For further information about this project please contact them.
