Special Easter Treat - Mayne Island Music Society - April 4th

The Music Society is planning a Very Special Easter Treat for classical music lovers; an afternoon performance by the Saltspring Island Chamber Players.

This trio is made up of Jim and Lauren Stubbs and their son Matt who now reside on Saltspring Island. Jim’s credentials include Principal Trumpet with the American Ballet Theatre, the Opera Orchestra of New York, The Israel Philharmonic and the Joffrey Dance Company. He has appeared as trumpet soloist in Carnegie Hall several times and has performed with Leonard Bernstein, Igor Stravinsky and Leopold Stokowsky..

Lauren was Principal Bassoonist with the Opera Orchestra of New York, the Riverside Symphony, the Joffrey and Paul Taylor Dance Companies and the National Ballet of Canada. She has performed with the New York Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.

Matthew, a well known accompanist and soloist started studying the piano at age 7 and has studied with world renowned performer and teacher, David Oei. When Matt was ten years old, he performed as a soloist with the Westchester Philharmonic Youth Concert Series.

The concert will include works by composers Orlando Lassus, J.S. Bach, Felix Mendelssohn, Alexandre Tansman, Aaron Copland and an improvisation by Matt. Doors open at 2:00 pm at the Ag Hall on Sunday April 4th. The concert will begin at 2:30. Don’t miss it!
